Still other Modern Era Researchers say that UFOs are without a doubt government/military devices spawned in the Nazi Aeronautics Labs of WWII and subsequently transferred to American research facilities and/or supposed underground bases in Antarctica or the Hollow Earth (take your pick). Conspiracy researchers extrapolate from this hypothesis the idea of the UFO as a tool of some secret government or Illuminati who are trying to attain a dominating New World Order / One World Tyranny. Some of these researchers warn of an impending Grand Deception where the populace's yearning and expectation of contact will be manipulated in order for this insidious agency to take control.
Either of the above hypotheses can be interpreted within a spiritual context of greater or lesser degree, depending upon one's personal religious perspectives.
Herein lies a major obstacle in grasping the wide scope of UFOs and related phenomena: each researcher necessarily attracts those reports which suit his hypothesis. Dr. Jacques Vallee noted this inherent problem of research in his 1975 book The Invisible College. Both Dr. Vallee and Dr. Karla Turner have noted that certain abduction researchers summarily reject any data not supporting those researcher's pet theories. It would seem that many researchers who believe in the existence of the phenomena have fallen prey to the same problem as skeptics like Phil Klass: blinding themselves with belief (disbelief in Klass' case). Robert Anton Wilson put it best when he said "Belief is the death of Intelligence." For this reason I feel it best to consider all hypotheses through Model Agnosticism. Since so much of our knowledge of these phenomena rests on anecdotal experiencer narratives one mustn't take any one account as UFO Gospel. So much of the phenomena seems inherently deceptive that it seems warranted NOT to believe blindly) anything these Visitors tell us. We should still listen and interact with the phenomena but should also reserve judgement on the value and validity of each individual communication. For we have heard countless reports of their alleged origins and these range from Orion, Mars, Venus, the Pleiades, and Zeti Reticuli to the Hollow Earth.
The biggest initial problem with investigating The Anomalous is which data you are going to address. With a subject as broad as "phenomena which seem to defy the accepted 'laws' of reality and causality" we must immediately narrow our focus to any groups of phenomena which seem to be related. Unidentified Flying Objects lead to Contact and Abduction accounts as well as a multitude of other paranormal and psychic phenomena. There are also the persistent reports and traces of Animal Mutilations and Crop Circles which are often associated with UFOs (as well as Balls Of Light, or BOLs).
So let us take the advice of Dr. Vallee and look at experiencer accounts so that we may learn the imagery to decipher the narrative. Perhaps in this way we can bypass the gridlock of seeking unbiased Government and Media acknowledgment of this enigma while giving the experiencers the forum they deserve. Besides, we might have more luck addressing certain agencies manipulation and misuse of belief in the phenomena than have others in tracking down the conspiracy paper trail. (Don't the llluminati have paper shredders?)
Is this evolutionary aspect related to the changes experiencers undergo following contact with this phenomena? These changes range from alterations in sleep and behavior patterns to increased intellectual capacities and psychic potential. Oiten experiencers describe this as an awakening of what was already within them. Perhaps close encounters of the UFO or Mystical kind initiate not only a philosophical change in the experiencer but also a physiological change as well. Doctors Jacques Vallee, Leo Sprinkle, Kenneth Ring, John Mack, Stanislov Grof and others have documented the important psychological and sociological impact of contact with these phenomena. The change of belief systems to encompass a "greater invisible reality."
Numerous abduction accounts center around that zone between waking and sleeping hence the term "bedroom visitations". The realms of hypnogogic and hypnopompic imagery have only recently begun to be properly investigated.
The relation of dreams to these encounters is intriguing. Often memories of encounters are triggered by disturbing dreams. Many narratives have dream-like qualities or aspects relating to Out of Body and Near Death Experiences. This parallel was noted as early as 1975 by Jacques Vallee when he noted the similar narrative elements of both UFO experiencer Jose Antonio's account and those of out of body experiencer and researcher Robert Monroe.
Ethnobotanical researcher and philosopher Terence McKenna describes the effect of the chemical DMT (dimethyltryptamine) on human consciousness as akin to a "UFO experience on demand." He and several other "Ethnobotanical Enthusiasts" have reported the contacting of 'non-human intelligences'.
Another possible candidate for UFO related Altered States of Consciousness is the canon of literature concerning Channeled information. Though I have seen no documentation as to whether or not people actually enter an ASC during their channeling, it seems conceivable that this could be a legitimate phenomena deserving more scientific investigation. Yet problems arise as to the true source of such channeled material. While it seems possible that an intelligence might be able to "inhabit" or "project" its thoughts and actions into the nervous system of a human, it seems equally likely that a lot of the information may be coming from the individual's own unconscious. Perhaps even from informational fields described as Morphogenetic fields by biologist Rupert Sheldrake. There are also known technologies which could imitate this same phenomena. And we mustn't forget that there are always "hucksters" out there waiting to make a buck off of people's belief's.
The subjects of Channeling and Walk-Ins brings us to the ideas of (Spirit)
Possession and Mind Control. UFO Occupants are said to be able to communicate
telepathically while also exacting degrees of control over the thoughts
and actions of the experiencers themselves.
Whether "explained" as the affect of psychic powers or implanted technology,
the implication is clear: we humans are easily controlled.
So, perhaps there are neurochemical and electromagnetic pathways within the human nervous system which open us to these experiences that occur within a surreal space between "reality" and "fantasy". Perhaps certain individuals, agencies and/or governments have discovered techniques and devices to manipulate consciousness. It is these Psychic Technologies which we will focus on next.
My roundabout exposure occurred when I first viewed PBS's NOVA UFO Special which featured Dr. Michael Persinger discussing his Tectonic Strain Theory of UFO phenomena. A sort of naturally occurring psychotronic effect of Earth Generated electromagnetics on the consciousness of the human nervous system inducing mystical "confabulations" of culturally specific hallucinatory images.
It does not bother me to tell you that my reaction to this idea was
like that of most 'nuts-and-bolts' theorists .......... I WAS INSULTED!
That someone would try to explain away the UFO phenomena as hallucination
induced by tectonic stress seemed preposterous! ! I was quite offended
and angered at NOVA for this 'debunking' effort. I had always respected
NOVA and

expected to hear a level headed approach to the subject. Luckily, at that time I was very interested in the electromagnetic and radiation effects associated with Close Encounter cases. The effects on both the environment AND the witnesses. This is what saved me from totally rejecting these ideas.
UFOs are known to have distinct electromagnetic effects; disrupting
engines and electrical systems. Even experiencers, such as Whitley Strieber,
describe difficulties with household electrical and mechanical appliances
after their encounters with the UFO phenomena. Dr.
Kenneth Ring noted this same propensity in his study of UFO Experiencers
and Dr. Stanislov Grof helps people going through both the pain of Chi'
("subtle energy") awakening and UFO Encounters. John Keel is a long time
proponent of the UFO Intelligences as ElectroMagnetic Entities able to
penetrate our reality in geographical zones known as UFO Flap Areas. These
geographical flap areas have also been noted by Dr. David Saunders, Ted
Holiday, Jenny Randles and Paul Devereaux.
The electromagnetic aspect of the UFO phenomena is evident. Claude Poher
found that most UFO sightings occurred during periods of maximum geomagnetic
activity. Sebastion Robiou's study of a 1973 UFO wave in Puerto Rico showed
the majority of sightings were within 30 kilometers radius of areas which
are magnetically anomalous. He also noted that these were not sighted directly
over these areas but from the periphery outwards. After collecting and
examining thousands of sightings Keel states unequivocally:
If you have been collecting UFO reports in your home state, you will probably find that many of those are concentrated in areas magnetic faults or deviations exist.
UFOs seem to congregate above the highest available hills in these window
areas. They become visible in these centers and then radiate outward, traveling
sometimes 100-200 miles before disappearing again."
Perhaps significantly, John Keel wrote in 1970 that, "In the 1950's, teams from the national Geological Survey Office quietly flew specially equipped planes over most of the United States and mapped all of the magnetic faults in the country."
Doctors Jose Delgado, John Lilly, and others have experimented with the control of physiological processes and behaviors through electromagnetic and pharmacological means. Martin Cannon has demonstrated that our government t and military have researched the potential of these technologies for use in controlling both the "Foreign Enemy" and "Domestic Civilian." That such psychotronics have been tested at least limitedly can not be dismissed. From examining Congressional inquiries, Agency informants, and actual hands-on research we can begin to get a glimpse of what is at least possible if not probable.
From doctors Jose Delgado, Wilder Penfield, John Lilly, Michael Persinger and others we know that specific actions, emotions, perceptions, and behaviors can be induced through electronic stimulation of the brain (ESB). In the 1950's Dr. Delgado invented an implantable device called the stimoceiver. This electrode can be controlled remotely as it transmits and receives signals via FM radio waves. This device can be implanted to stimulate specific areas of the brain or even within the ear where it can act as a microphone. If the implant can both transmit and receive sound then perhaps it could also be used to transmit voices into a subjects ear!
In 1978 researcher Robert Beck began circulating a paper titled Extreme Low Frequency Magnetic Fields and EEG Entrainment - A Psychotronic Warfare Possibility! In this article he detailed his own research into the induction of specific brain wave states through exposure to ELF fields. He and others have demonstrated the same effects utilizing pulsed light, sound and electricity as evidenced by the Mind Machines currently available through New Age / New Tech catalogs like Tools For Exploration and organizations such as the USPA United States Psychotronics Association. In Beck's extensive bibliography are several references to similar experiments undertaken by our own military establishment including:
"Operant behavior of rhesus monkeys in the presence of extremely low frequency low intensity magnetic and electric fields: experiment 1," from Pensacola: Naval Aerospace Medical Research Lab., 1972.
"Central-nervous-system effects as measured by reaction time in squirrel monkeys exposed for short periods to extremely low-frequency magnetic fields," from Pensacola: Naval Aerospace Medical Research Lab., 1971.
"Biological entrainment of the human brain by low frequency radiation," Northrop Space Laboratories 1965.
"The effect of low energy ELF electromagnetic radiation on operant behavior in the pigeon and the rat," from 1973 report of Georgia Institute of Technology study under contract to the Office of Naval Research.
"Biomedical aspects of nonionizing radiation," from Proceedings of a Symposium held at the Naval Weapons Laboratory, Dahlgren, Virginia, 1973.
None of these supposed mind control technologies negates the probability of an actual Alien Intelligence manifesting as UFOs, etc. Indeed it would seem apparent that modem attempts at perfecting these technologies would be a response to the phenomena and do not represent the "true UFO phenomena" which predates the Modern Era.
