Steve Mizrach's "Super Spectrum Hypothesis" triggered a memory which occasionally haunts me, and actually might contain a secret worth pondering. The sentence in question reads, "In the movie Poltergeist there is a memorable scene where out of the 'white noise' of a UHF television channel emerges the arm of one of the entities. The suggestion is that through the upper reaches of the [electromagnetic] spectrum - i.e. the Superspectrum the entities, normally outside our perceptual reach, may be able to communicate."

Now to the haunting memory: Spring, 1993, I was in a sound studio after several days of little sleep, working on a deadline. Against all better judgment, I decided to take advantage of the multi-track equipment and try an audio experiment. I had recently purchased Music From the Galaxies [Island 422-828 768-2], a CD in which Dr. Fiorella Terenzi re-gauges cosmic radiation data from the galaxy UGC 6697 in order to fit within the sound spectrum; a brilliant idea leading to startling results, albeit mixed in an abrupt manner.

I decided to, 1) slow the material down by half and, 2) add several additional layers of the material at the identical starting point. The very slight speed imperfections in the reel-to-reel multi-track and CD player would, I know, create interesting phase relationships, which would add another layer of interest to the sounds. That is, if an identical set of sound waves hits the original just a skosh later, a shimmering sound occurs. (Still with me?) Okay, when I played this stuff back, it was around 2:00 a.m. Not a soul was in the building. I was bone tired and near brain dead, but all of a sudden my attention was riveted! I began to hear, through white noise and pink noise, words spoken in English! Because Fiorella either loops her material or that's the nature of the signals themselves, I began to hear English phrases repeating: "We are here. We are here! We are here!, etc." or "Let us tell you about us. Let us tell you about us. Let us tell you about us." Unfortunately, if I wrote the exact words down, I don't know where I secured them, and I can only approximate the messages. One or two of the messages actually seemed to be "slice of life" conversations, again, in English.

Repeated listenings that evening resulted in the same messages, even more. Repeated listenings since that evening have not yielded the same results. Three thoughts come to mind. 1) I was so tired that auditory hallucination occurred. 2) As with Raudive voices, the loops picked up conversations of the dead souls on Earth. After all, Konstantin Raudive's method reportedly used tape loops. 3) The SETI people need to look at not just the simple signal as it arrives in our huge telescopes in order to find extraterrestrial communication, but also investigate the possibility of what can be created in the space between phase relationships. As I said above, if an identical set of sound waves hits the original just a skosh later, a shimmering sound occurs. Several shimmers in a pre-coded signal could be just the Rosetta stone needed to translate the message.

Thanks very much for the copy of ELF. I used to live up in the vicinity of the ELF facility near Clam Lake, WI. Well, within 50 miles.

I think I like the approach you are taking with ELF. I know I like the approach. It is more or less what I'd try to do with such a magazine.

Here are a couple of pieces of my writing. One ... I am sending because it directly concerns UFOs, is about Strieber's first book, Communion. No one, to my knowledge, is attempting to "read" the hypnotic material dredged up describing encounters in a symbolic fashion. At least no one I've read.

The second, short piece, in my opinion explicates Robert Larson's "Crash Go The Saucers," dream. Just had a dream in which I saw a huge saucer crash atop a mountain. Read it as the end of the UFO mystery era.

Larson, also, does not attempt to read his dream in anything other than a ... concrete way. He is attempting to "save" (aliens) a mystery that should, that needs to die, go kaput.

Notice please, the house is the Moore house and then see what record or disc it is that is being sent down in my piece, The Throne of Dreams. I would assert "Moore" here is a pun on Moor, as in Othello, the Moor, in the play, Othello - which concerns a murdered woman as well. A disc is also a compact disc, a record, in this case a play being sent down from the Throne of Inspiration as a controlling program designed to produce many "Looking for Mr. Goodbars," many Desdemonas, but please read my piece to see what I mean!

Same for Rydeen's "The Bridge." A beautifully described encounter with an "enigmatic orb" taking on water for an "unknown purpose." An event veiled in symbolic vision, or language. Just look at how he described the frog hopping into the water and then the bass with its open mouth waiting there, or lurking there. Bass eat frogs! Frogs would be capable of swimming down to see what the UFO is doing down in the water of Rydeen's, our unconscious. But is prevented from going to fetch the Princess's gold ball, solar consciousness, by the swallowing bass. An idyllic scene of an enigma is protected by the near-invisible threat of violence-any who enter the unconscious will be swallowed. "Conscequence?" Rydeen does not enter the lake of the unconscious with his intentional mind, conscious mind to solve the enigma. Can't. Same for most of the rest of us.
