Robert Moody is a 35-year-old former financial and estate planner. He is also an ex-Marine with a history of service as a weather forecaster. Moody claims that during that time of service, from 1976 to 1982, he came across secret military messages concerning crashed saucers in the Pacific, including recovered alien bodies. Of course, it wasn't until months after the killings that he saw a Star Trek: The Next Generation episode dealing with alien mind control which made him realize that he was under "diabolical possession."
He now claims a history of alien abduction going back to when he was a 5-year-old. Moody was told by his alien inquisitors that we are taking our planet to the brink of destruction through pollution, and that they wish to save us from ourselves. First, they must convince humans that aliens exist. According to Moody, they plan to do this through the attention drawn by the court case. Moody is convinced that he will be sentenced to death by lethal injection, but he will be saved by the aliens, as proof of their existence. Yeah... good luck, Bob!
Details of his loss of physical sensation during the murders and the mindlessness of his actions, including his subsequent cross-country flight from Arizona to California, imply possible human mind control, rather than alien intervention or simple cocaine craziness. His assertion of belief in secret alien bases near Nellis in Nevada and Dulce in New Mexico smacks of so much paranoid UFOlogical disinformation that it may just be that he is under the control of some secret American agency. Or perhaps he is simply delusional from the drugs. Most recently, the judge has pushed to have Moody psychologically evaluated for the next six months.
This case could be precedent setting. Recent debates over False Memory Syndrome could find much food for thought within this unfolding court case. At present Ted Loman, of the access television UFO video series UFOAZ, is interviewing Moody and generally keeping tabs on this intriguing case.
