There are vast parallels here with UFO phenomena wherein an individual comes to believe that their experience has a certain validity, but is unable to formulate exactly what the experience was. This is important, because it seems that when an individual comes to more immediate conclusions about the experience, much less is gained, and generally vast areas of the psyche are shut off, possibly including areas that where unknown to the individual before the experience. Many people who have had such experiences (along with almost ANY experience that could be considered hallucinatory or tremendously psychoactive) find that the act of admitting such a thing could even happen forces them to reframe much of what they consider valid. This could be referred to as transmission of a certain 'knowledge' from the UFO (or the experience.)
The use of a light has many parallels with recorded UFO phenomena as well, although the colors reported differ (in my opinion based upon the individual's mindset and/or the bent that source of the experience wishes to shed on things.) Rays of light are often recorded as emanating from visible UFOs, as well as in the bedroom (during semi-concious states), from clouds, etc.
The most interesting aspect that occurs to me whilst exploring these parallels I find in the final moments of V.A.L.I.S. Was it a dream?......who were they really?.....did it really happen?!
Introductions are due here, so here: I am 23 years of age, and have had an interest in paranormal phenomena for most of my life, although it intermingles with my many other interests. My eyes were opened to the deeper (implicate) levels of paranormal & alien phenomena while I was in my first year in college. An odd thing occurred to me one night, and for over a year after I shut it away in the far corners of my mind. I still have little recollection of the event outside of what I initially recalled when I did recall, and to this day I wonder what the experience "really" was. It HAS, however, forced me to reframe my interpretation system multiple times, and each time I find validity in the new framework. I had experienced minor paranormal experiences prior to this, but none that stood out as truly abnormal or fell completely outside of the framework of the tenable.
As for Jacques Vallee, PKD, Strieber, McKenna, R.A.W., Casteneda, and even Sitchen, I absorbed these all either prior to my experience (out of curiosity) or within a year after, but I have not lately been able to find many viewpoints that differ from the conventional enough to be informative, and still seem to be somewhat valid. Much redundant info, and quite a few self-styled gurus as well, but nothing truly fresh. So I am always on the search for new frameworks to place my experience in, for without currently being able to get truly to the "bottom" of the nature of the experience, reforming allows me comfort and insight.
I had never actually pondered a connection between PKD and UFOs prior to your email, although the connection was obvious. It definitely bears further consideration on my part, for there is much to be found there. Have you read the selections taken from his Exegesis? Great, although I would love to get my hands on the full exegesis... well, lots of work pending, I am a struggling graphic designer/artist/DJ (ambient/chill), and need to tend to monetary issues right now.....
